The European Commission Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety (DG SANTE) has asked the Scientific Committees on Health, Environmental and Emerging Risks (SCHEER) to provide their scientific input on e-cigarettes.
The SCHEER’s opinion will feed into an EU report required by the Tobacco Products Directive (expected in May 2021) that will cover new scientific and technical developments.
Currently there is a lack of information regarding short- and long-term effects of e-cigarettes on the respiratory system. However, evolving evidence highlights health risks of e-cigarettes on the lungs, including disease and irreversible damage.
